THE RAILWAY CHILDREN By E. NESBIT

MY REVIEW

I remember watching the Railway Children on TV and being totally glued to the TV. As a great fan of the railway children I jumped at the chance to read the book which I have never done before up till now. I highly recommend this paperback The Railway Children by Legend Press.

THE RAILWAY CHILDREN BY E. NESBIT

PUBLISHED BY LEGEND PRESS LTD 1/6/2017

PAGES 201

Paperback £8.99 Waterstones

Edith Nesbit child characters are remarkable because they are so entirely human. They are intelligent, vain, aggressive, humorous, witty, cruel, compassionate…in fact, they are like adults’ Gore Vidal The lives of Roberta, Peter and Phyllis are shattered when their father leaves with two strangers. When they and their mother move to a country cottage, they soon come to love the railway that runs nearby. There follows a series of many adventures, including saving a train from disaster, and then finally helping the Old Gentleman try to solve the mystery of their father’s disappearance. One of the most famous stories of all time, enjoyed by millions of children and adults across the world.
These three lucky children always had everything they needed pretty clothes, good fires, a lovely nursery with heaps of toys, and a Mother Goose wall-paper.
You will think that they ought to have been very happy. And so they were, but they did not know  how happy till the pretty life in the Red Villa was over and done with, and they had to live a very life indeed.

THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES BY SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE

PUBLISHED BY LEGEND PRESS 1/6/2017

PAGES 187

Paperback £8.99 Waterstones

Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on the wild Dartmouth Moors with the footprints of a giant hound nearby and the murder is blamed on a family curse. It is left to Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson to solve the mystery of the legend of the supernatural and gruesome hound before Sir Charles’s heir comes to similarly painful end. Widely considered the finest Sherlock Holmes novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles has become the defining book of the great detective and millions have read with enjoyment and horror the story of Holmes, Watson and the infamous hound.

He said that there were no traces upon the ground round the body. He did not observe any. But I did some little distance off, but fresh and clear. Footprints? Footprints. A man’s or a woman’s? Dr Mortimer looked strangely at us for an instant, and his voice sank almost to a whisper as he answered. Mr Holmes, they were the footprints of a gigantic hound.

MY REVIEW

So good I loved reading this short book. I do think that The Hound of the Baskervilles is ideal for fans of classic novels and who prefer to read short books.
