The Hate U Give Paperback £5.59 Amazon UK

WHAT’S THE POINT OF HAVING A VOICE IF YOU’RE GONNA BE SILENT IN THOSE MOMENTS YOU SHOULDN’T BE

Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: the poor neighbourhood where she was born and raised and her posh high school in the suburbs. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. Now what Starr says could destroy her community. It could also get her killed.

MY REVIEW

Beautifully written. The story and characters were very believable. A heartbreaking story.

Starr and Kenya went to a house party hosted by a guy named Darius. Khalil who Starr had known since she was three turned up at the party. A fight occurred at the party so Khalil and Starr left together in his car. A cop pulled Khalil over and forced him out of his car. Khalil was patted down which the cop found nothing, the officer went to check his license & registration. Khalil open the driver’s side door & pow pow pow the cop shot him. It appeared that sixteen year old Khalil was shot dead because he was a sixteen year old black boy.
Full of praise for Angie Thomas. A different novel for readers that I highly recommend to read.
