Two murders. Twenty years. Now the killer is back for more.

Detective Inspector Matilda Darke has returned to work after a nine-month absence.

A shadow her former self, she is tasked with re-opening a cold case the terrifyingly brutal murders of Miranda and Stefan Harkness twenty years ago. The only witness was their eleven-year-old son, Jonathan, who was too deeply traumatized to speak a word.

Then a dead body is discovered, and the investigation leads back to Matilda’s case. Suddenly the past and the present converge, and it seems a killer may have come back for more.

So unnerving. Full of page turning murder suspense. Jonathan

Harkness parents were brutally killed in their beautiful home while their youngest child eleven-year-old Jonathan looked on in horror. When police arrived Fifteen-year-old brother Matthew Harkness was missing from the scene. Detective Chief Inspector Matilda Darke was reassigned to working on cold cases. Stefan and Miranda Harkness were murdered in 1994. The Harkness case was being reviewed. After Jonathan Harkness parents were murdered he didn’t speak for a very long time after. It appeared that Jonathan never made a statement after his parents brutal murder. People seem to die around Jonathan. His parents, his brother, his boss and his neighbour.

One novel from a very talented author that I recommend. I will be reading more books by Michael Wood.
