The Sisters by Claire Douglas

Oe had a secret.

One lost her mind. One died.

After the tragic death of her twin sister and a subsequent breakdown, Abi has moved to Bath to make a fresh stat. But wherever she goes, she’s haunted by the memory of Lucy, and can’t stop herself from searching fruitlessly for her sister’s face in the crowds. One day she meets  Bea a girl with uncanny resemblance to Lucy and Bea’s twin brother, Ben, to whom she feels an irresistible attraction.

Before long, Bea has invited Abi to live in their townhouse, which places Abi’s budding relationship with Ben under strain. But Bea has a secret to hide that she’ll do anything to protect, and as Abi falls deeper in love with Ben, things in the house take a turn for the worse. Slowly, Abi begins to unravel, and must question everything she thought she knew about her new friends and about herself.

The Sisters is the unforgettable novel from Claire Douglas, winner of the Marie Claire Debut Novel Award, 2013, judged by Cecelia Ahern.

The Sisters is a dark and complex novel that will ask you again and again who you believe.

After the tragic death of her twin sister Abi moves to Bath to make a new fresh start. It is there she stills sees her twin sister everywhere. Abi is haunted by the memory of her dead sister Lucy all the time.  Before Lucy died, Abi was fun and hard-working,and popular within her group of friends. But now Abi has become the sort of person that others try to avoid. Where Abi keeps being haunted by her twin Lucy she thinks she has seen her sister but it is someone handing out flyers who makes and sells jewellery at her house. Beatrice who hands out a flyer to Abi offers Abi Cavendish to come and make new friends at her house. In the house Bea’s friends are Pam who is larger than life and Cass who is a sweetheart. As Bea and Abi get on so well Beatrice offers Abi to moved in Bea’s townhouse. Abi is happy to move in as not only is Bea a twin too, she has lost someone close to her so she understands Abi.  Things take a turn for the worse. This is claire Douglas first novel and I look forward to her next.
