My darling Briony today I think of you more than ever

What does it take to piece a broken family back together again?

On a crystal clear Mediterranean day, Briony McAllister plays with her four-year-old daughter, Katie, while she waits for her mother to join them. Valerie has recently moved to a picturesque Spanish town to finally leave behind  her turbulent past. Briony has no idea that in a few moments time their relationship with her mother will shatter.

As Katie plays, Briony pulls out an old photo album, found in her mother’s new home. As she studies the faded picture, a letter falls to the ground. It is addressed to her. Briony reads the words with mountain shock. Her mother lied to her about what happened with her beloved grandmother Tessa all those years ago and denied Briony that precious relationship, the type Valerie now enjoys with Katie. Tessa Egan once sang lullabies to a much love grandchild. Once comforted a distressed little girl. Once had midnight feasts and told stories. Before Valerie took Briony away.

The lives of three generations of woman will change forever as the past is revisited and the truth unfolds. Secrets, lies, betrayals and sacrifices the complex bonds between mothers, daughters and granddaughters are unravelled as Patricia Scanlan  takes us into the hearts and homes of a family ripped apart.

Utterly magic and wonderful.
